Mark Hekman, bassoon

A Michigan native, Mark Hekman (bassoon) has fallen in love with the climate of North Carolina. He has spent most of his life in cold places, completing his Bachelor of Music degree at Ithaca College with Lee Goodhew and his Master of Music degree at The Ohio State University with Chris Weaitt. However, the open roads were calling his name and after graduation from OSU, Mark tried his luck racing the professional cycling circuit. His luck turned out to be quite good as he was able to make a 5-year career out of racing. Four broken bones and a substantial bout of missing skin from crashing convinced him to lay down his bicycle for the last time and pick up his bassoon again. Mr. Hekman currently teaches bassoon at High Point University and is on the faculty of Pfeiffer University. He is pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Mark is the husband to the best wife ever and a caretaker of Burger, the worst behaved Labradoodle ever brought into this world.
